Welcome to River Landing Dentistry

The use of sedation in dentistry has revolutionized the way patients view dental visits. Patients who once were afraid or anxious about even the most routine dental procedures now visit the dentist with confidence. In-office sedation is typically administered to healthy individuals who need help relaxing or managing treatment anxiety. Reasons for needing sedation may include lengthy procedure times and dental phobias.

Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)

  • Nitrous Oxide, or laughing gas as it’s commonly known, is a very routine and noninvasive way to help you relax during your next dental appointment.
  • It involves simply wearing a nose piece and breathing in nitrous oxide and oxygen without any added effort on your end.
  • The nitrous oxide gas diffuses into your body and gives you a calm, euphoric feeling.
  • This is a great option for children and adults because you will still be awake and aware of your surroundings during the appointment.
  • The nitrous oxide takes effect after a few minutes and the level can be increased or decreased depending on your comfort.
  • After the procedure is completed the nitrous oxide is turned off and you will be placed on 100% oxygen for 5 minutes.
  • There are no after effects and you don’t need a driver after nitrous oxide.

Oral Minimal Sedation

  • Minimal Oral Sedation involves taking a prescribed medication prior to your dental appointment to help alleviate any anxiety that you may have about your visit.
  • It provides an increase in the level of relaxation compared to nitrous oxide alone, and oftentimes we can combine the two to maximize their effects.
  • This method allows you as the patient to be awake but more relaxed
  • This method is typically recommended for any patients that suffer from mild to moderate dental anxiety.
  • As the medication takes a few hours to completely wear off, we do require you to have a trusted family member or friend drive you to and from the dental appointment.

Moderate IV Sedation

  • Moderate IV Sedation is a wonderful option for our most anxious patients.
  • It involves the placement of a small IV into your arm which allows us to deliver medications that take only a minute for them to have an effect.
  • This allows us to give small, repeated doses until you are at the exact level of sedation that is most comfortable for you.
  • We can also keep you at that level of sedation throughout your entire procedure, even if it lasts 3-4 hours.
  • This is the recommended method of sedation for anyone requiring a longer procedure (>3 hours) with any form of dental anxiety, especially those with moderate to severe dental anxiety.
  • This form of sedation does not force you to fall asleep, but most patients become so relaxed that they do so.
  • Because the medications we deliver have an amnesic effect, you will remember very little of the actual procedure.
  • With your safety in mind, we carefully monitor your respiratory and cardiovascular system with a real-time monitor and a dedicated assistant to keep you safely relaxed.
  • We require you to not eat or drink anything 6 hours prior to your appointment.
  • We also require a trusted family member or friend to drive you to and from your dental appointment.

As an office that is dedicated to comprehensive care and advanced procedures we can complete a wide range of treatments during your appointment to comfortably meet all your dental needs.
